Join the Kinzua Cachers and friends for a meet and greet around the campfire from 8:00 - 11:00 PM to celebrate the summer solstice in the heart of the beautiful Allegheny National Forest.. Since this is the longest day of the year, we will need to spend some time around the campfire toasting marshmallows, swapping tales of caching adventures, and making plans for the next day's caching adventure before it is dark enough to tackle a new night cache placed especially for this event.
The event will take place beginning at 8:00 PM at Whispering Winds Campground located on Tollgate Road in Sheffield, PA. Park near the swimming pool if you are not already camping with the group. Just look for the cluster of camp chairs assembling around a campfire and the Kinzua Cacher banner hanging nearby, or if your eyesight is failing, rely on your hearing. Just listen for the boisterous laughter or the cackling of the hens. More than likely, there will be fresh eggs for breakfast by morning if things hold true to form.
Upon arrival, you can check in at the office if you need help finding the group, sign the event log, trade travel bugs, and socialize with the members of the Kinzua Cacher clan and friends while we wait for darkness to come. Since this is the longest day of the year, that will provide us plenty of time for the good camaraderie around the fire sharing tales of geocaching adventures, hitting up your fellow cachers for a hint on an elusive find, or planning the next day's adventures. There is WiFi service at the campground, so you may even want to look up or log local caches during the event.
Then when it is dark enough, we will assemble the more ambitious members of the group to head out for a new night cache placed just for our event. For your safety, we recommend wearing hiking or sturdy shoes, and bringing a flashlight. Even better, we recommend checking the conditions of your batteries, or bringing a spare set, just in case, as we have heard about cases where a cacher may have forgot a flashlight, or their batteries went dead, and they ended up stumbling into or tripping over a large rock, Eh Wilbur?
Whether you are camping for the weekend or just want to join us for the event, everyone is welcome. There is no admission charge for this event!
