GEOCACHING 101: Geocaching is an international, high-tech treasure-hunt game suitable for all ages that gets you off the couch and interacting with family and friends. It’s a great way to explore new places and have some adventures in the great outdoors. Local geocachers “Gee-Oh-Jinx” invites you to join them at the Taber Library the game and get some experience with GPS devices that are geocaching-friendly.

1. A Brief History of Geocaching and GPS technology
2. How to search for a cache
3. Information found on a cache page
4. How to log a find online
5. Cache types, sizes, containers and a few useful terms
6. Tips and Tricks

EVENT: This event will take place on Saturday April 27 at 10am for 2-3 hours.  A $2 fee is being requested to off-set the costs to set up this event. GPS coordinates for the Taber Library N 49° 47.164 W 112° 08.523. There will be in-class instruction of about 1 to 1.5 hours followed by time for questions and some practice out in the field. If you have a GPSr bring it with you but loaners will be available. No prior experience is necessary, but it will be beneficial for attendees to browse the website prior to the event, and sign up for a free membership. THE INSTRUCTORS Shamus and Dawn [Geowyrms] are very active in the Calgary Geocaching community. In 2011 they helped plan WestCan1 (The Best of the Bad). More recently, they have partnered with the Calgary Public Library to celebrate their centennial, are the Geocaching liaisons to the City of Calgary, have taught a Geocaching classes at a Calgary school and given presentations to both the public and government regarding geocaching. They promote the integration of Geocaching and environmental awareness at many community events. However, nothing beats mentoring a new cacher on a one-to-one basis! The Wyrm’s always try to be available to new cachers to help everyone get the fullest enjoyment out of a cherished past time.
