Geocache Description:

Keele Hall

Keele Hall

The manor of Keele was held by the Sneyd family and in about 1580 Ralph Sneyd built a large gabled Tudor style house there. The family prospered as coal and iron owners and also brick and tile manufacturers. In about 1851 the old house was replaced with the current imposing mock Jacobean design by architect Anthony Salvin. The three storeyed castellated entrance front has four octagonal turrets and other fronts have curved gables.

This is part of a series of caches around Keele Woods which were placed for the Trees, Bees and Student Fees event.

The caches can be made into a circular encompassing the Hickory Dickory Dock series.

The woods can be very boggy, so walking boots or wellies are recommended, especially after rain.

There is currently an issue with Phytophthora ramorum on the rhodedendrons in the wood. Please keep to marked footpaths. Caches are placed away from plants identified with this disease.

Parking is free on any University car park on weekends and bank holidays and after 5.30pm on weekdays. Alternatively between 8.30am and 5.30pm weekdays, pay and display parking is available. See here for more information.

LOG ETIQUETTE: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
