Mole Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

harmless42: Archiving this because the university are about to start some major work in the woods.

There is an outbreak of Phytophtora Ramorum (commonly known as “Sudden Death Oak”) in the woods. The university have tried to stop the spread of the disease but have been unsuccessful. They are now about to start some major work to remove the major 2 hosts of the disease on the campus. This will involve the removal of all of the larch and rhododendron on campus. They are about to close the entire southern section of the woods. This part of the woods will be closed until April 2015. This is to allow the clearance and then replanting of new trees. There will also be other parts of the woods around closed for various times overs the next 18 months, so we we disable/archive caches in those areas at those times.

Thanks to everyone who found (or attempted to find) this cache.

Geocache Description:

Mole

Mole

The Wind in the Willows is a classic of children's literature by Kenneth Grahame, first published in 1908. Alternately slow moving and fast paced, it focuses on four anthropomorphised animal characters in a pastoral version of England. The first character to appear in the story is Mole.

Beware of the steep slope

This is part of a series of caches around Keele Woods which were placed for the Trees, Bees and Student Fees event.

The caches can be made into a circular encompassing the Hickory Dickory Dock series.

The woods can be very boggy, so walking boots or wellies are recommended, especially after rain.

There is currently an issue with Phytophthora ramorum on the rhodedendrons in the wood. Please keep to marked footpaths. Caches are placed away from plants identified with this disease.

Parking is free on any University car park on weekends and bank holidays and after 5.30pm on weekdays. Alternatively between 8.30am and 5.30pm weekdays, pay and display parking is available. See here for more information.

LOG ETIQUETTE: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
