After the exersions at MSM: Cliff & Cave, a pleasant stroll down along the edge of the wood brings you to the hamlet of Beck Head. The path is clearly signed through the buildings - go straight ahead until you reach the road, then turn left.
Go round the corner to the lovely spot by the stream - one of the 'Lost Streams of Whitbarrow'. Water falls on the hill; dissapears into cracks and crevices; flows through the hill and some then re-emerges in the valley bottom. Beck Head is a fine example of a 'resurgence' as the water gurgles out from under the small limestone cliff, through a bedding plane. The large hole a few feet up in the middle is actually a man-made water feature! In very wet weather it still flows.
No need to get any wet feet but you will have to cross to the 'island'. Geohounds will be very happy here!
