Geocache Description:

Sunday Morning Hiking Series #46 - Lambs Canyon
8am-12pm

Series Description

For those new to this hiking series, these are social hikes around the Salt Lake area for the purpose of caching, enjoying the outdoors, and getting to know fellow cachers. There tends to be a range of fitness levels that show up for the hikes. As the emphasis is on being social, don't worry if a steep leaves you puffing. I'll be right there clinging to a tree and puffing with you. Our usual meeting time is 8am, and we leave the parking area by 8:05am. The other primary feature of these hikes is that they are short and can be accomplished by noon. Trails tend to be a little emptier on Sunday mornings and we'll be done in time for anyone who has Sunday obligations to attend an afternoon service. If you don't have to be anywhere in the afternoon, there's frequently a longer trail to take. If you would like more information about the whole series of hikes, check out the others in the series in the bookmark list at the right.

NOTE FOR NON-CACHERS: Since there has been a trend toward non-cachers joining us due to cross posting of hikes on hiking groups, just a heads-up. Yes, it's a hike and you are certainly welcome to join us. However, it is a caching hike which means if there are caches along the trail we are going to go search for them. That may mean stepping off the trail briefly or an involved search and/or bushwhack off trail. We are happy to teach you about geocaching. We like to spread our obsession. Just come with the expectation that there will be detours from the trail and it will likely take longer to do the hike with this group than most other groups you've gone with. Searching the woods for a piece of paper in tupperware using billion dollar satellites is fun. Try it, you might like it.

Description for this Hike

In the continuing theme of new trails near places we have been before, this month we will climb to the same saddle we crossed as we approached Millvue Peak (Oct 2012). This time we will come at it from the north side through Lambs Canyon. The hike is a relatively short (about 3.5 mile round trip) and less steep than the approach from Mill Creek. Meaning even with our standard detours we may actually make it back to the parking lot by the promised 12pm!

We'll use that extra time to honor Earth Day/Weekend by cleaning up the area around the trailhead and parking area. Bring gloves for that part of the adventure. I'll provide the trash bags.

For the trail, watch the weather. It's spring in the mountains. We could be knee deep in snow or mud, although I'll keep my fingers crossed for a pleasant spring hike.

For anyone wanting a longer hike or who missed the trip to Millvue, instead of turning around at the saddle you could continue up to the peak. There is still a FTF up there which was placed during the last hike.

Because the parking area at the trail head is SO small (There's only room for three cars.), the coordinates are for the parking area right off the interstate. We'll gather there and carpool to the trailhead. That is also the main area that needs cleaning up.

Lambs Canyon is listed as part of the watershed so no dogs on this one. I realize on the approach from Mill Creek dogs are allowed on odd days, but that's what the signs say. Bring sunscreen and water for the hike. Drinks will be provided after the hiking and cleaning.

Come on out and have some fun hiking and caching with the Seventh Day Adventurists! Make a Sunday morning caching hike part of your month! Cache you there!
