Nun Here Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Balayang: I am regretfully archiving this cache since unfortunately there has been no action to restore it, or any communication from the cache owner, rajah2, requesting additional time.

An ample opportunity has been provided for the Cache Owner to respond, but since this opportunity has been ignored, I can only conclude that the cache has been abandoned.

Caches archived under these circumstances are unable to be Unarchived, and this location is now available for the placement of a new cache, by somebody else.

Geocache Description:

Priory Lodge in Dongara could tell a lot of stories and one of them could be, where is this small cache hidden?

In 1899 a small group of Dominican Sisters from New Zealand moved to Greenough. In 1901 they relocated to Dongara and established St Dominic’s Priory, then in 1928, the Dominican Ladies College. In 1971 severe flooding from the Irwin River made it necessary for them to relocate to Perth.

Along-side Priory Lodge is an old, derelict path, which winds its way through bush to an even more derelict  memorial site. Dominican Sisters who devoted their lives to serving the people of the Geraldton Diocese during the years 1899 – 1957 were buried here. In 1996, the decision was made to transfer the remains of the deceased to the Sister’s plot in Karrakatta Cemetery, Perth.

The cache contains a log book and pencil and the best approach is via the parking area at Priory Lodge. Please replace the cache carefully.

Have fun
