Dipper Crazy #1 Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

dippercrazy: Sorry, folks, I just can't take the whining any more. I have spent hours here trying to get the coordinates adjusted and every time I do, somebody comments that they were more accurate before I adjusted them. Also, it has been confusing for those who seem to concentrate on the end prize and not the um, journey. (Read the #@!*$#! instructions!)
So, bye for now... but do visit this amazing place and learn a lot about a most magnificent life cycle.

Geocache Description:

This is the first in a series celebrating my favorite bird, the American Dipper, once known as the water ouzel. You must allow time (an hour?) to wander a bit and find all the fun spots this special place has to offer! I have made a bit of a "trail" for you to follow, to help you not miss any of the best parts. Got binoculars?!

This is one of my favorite spots because you never know what you will see here. Different seasons hold various treasures! Fish lovers should visit June - February. I taught my nephew Keegan how to ride a bike here, one of the many highlights of my life.

Please observe Wallace River Fish Hatchery hours: 7AM - dark. Hatchery staff live here; if you blow it and enter after hours, the cache will be removed.
NOTE: There is a sign posted which reads, "Authorized Personnel Only". This sign refers to vehicles only - you ARE permitted to walk past this sign in search of the cache. (visit link)

Location Overview
The Wallace River Hatchery is located between the confluence of May Creek and the Wallace River. The hatchery was originally known as the Skykomish Hatchery and dates back to 1907. It is the only hatchery facility rearing chinook within the Snohomish River Basin. The hatchery rears and releases Summer Chinook, Coho, and Winter-Run Steelhead. It also incubates and initially rears Summer Steelhead before they are transferred to the Reiter Ponds for final rearing and release.

Seasonal Hatchery Activities

Adults spawning: September through November
Moving fry to holding ponds: December through February
Release of fish : April through June
Rearing of fish : Year round
