Grantham Canal - Harlaxton Cut Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Alqunas: Time to go, the location is a bit to exposed for satisfactory placement of a decent sized cache which is probably why it's gone missing a few times now.

Geocache Description:

A 2ml sized container placed beside the tow-path of the Grantham Canal within the Harlaxton Cut. It is anchored in place so please don't remove the anchor. Thank you.

Grantham Canal is a wonderful place to visit, whether to walk or cycle; so why not do this cache and others placed nearby and enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the area. The canal teems with wildlife and the banks of this cutting host a wide variety of flora over the seasons. This cache is located in The Cut, east of Harlaxton Bridge - the effect of this cut, which maintains the level of the canal without the use of locks, is to add to the tranquility of the location - much of the time it is difficult to believe that the busy A1 Great North Road and the A607 are so close, as is the town of Grantham itself.

The towpath is firm and generally a fairly good surface whether on foot or a bike, except after the very wettest of weather. I have seen buggies used on this section, but access is limited and narrow and I think that they must have been lifted over the gates / access points either at The Drift or at Vincent's Bridge. I expect that the surface may well be suitable for all terrain wheelchairs but unfortunately there does not appear to be a suitable access point - maybe one day, lets hope.
The area is family friendly and I see many families out enjoying the local environment both on foot and by bicycle but clearly the canal contains deep and cold water, so the usual caveats about the dangers of children and water apply, so be safe and take care, but please have fun and enjoy this beautiful place.

This cache was muggled so I have replaced the original 200ml container for the time being with a 35mm sized cannister which will hopefully be a little less vulnerable in this busy spot. It is in the same spot so co-ordinates have not changed. OK it's gone again so I have replaced it with a 2ml container anchored to the tree. Hopefully it won't move this time.
