Geocache Description:

A quick roadside cache at a beautiful viewpoint in the Baviaanskloof, in the section known as Combrink's Pass, which was built by the famous roads engineer, Thomas Bain during 1880 to 1890. The cache is hidden in a small tupperware container at the base of a tree at the lookout point. Mind your step!

This is our first cache placement  after starting caching back in 2003 - many more sure to follow soon, as the bug has bitten again!

Baviaanskloof is a great place for a weekend getaway, and there are numerous very reasonably priced campsites and guesthouses along the R332 route from Patensie through to Willowmore.  A vehicle with good clearance and 2x4 is recommended if you plan on doing the entire route.

The cache site is a great spot to stretch your legs and enjoy the magnificent views. It is on the Combrink's Pass section, which was built by the famous roads engineer, Thomas Bain during 1880 to 1890. It is quite steep and narrow and as it snakes upwards there are some very tight turns, with breathtaking drops and dramatic scenery.

Generally, there is no cellphone reception in the Baviaans -in case of emergency, reception will be found at S33 38.939 E24 30.219 [A good idea to put it in on your GPS - its about 1,9km further on from the cache site].

A good website for accommodation options and further info on the Baviaanskloof  is www.baviaanstourism.co.za
