From the place you see, on August 18th, 1921 a famous soviet engineer Mstislav Los' with the help of his fellow comrade Gusev, launched the first rocket to the planet Mars.

Engineer Los' lived in a house on the Zhdanovskaya embankment 11. It's an interesting fact that the neighboring house ( Zhdanovskya 13) has to do with the Russian aviation and space programs. In the 1920's it housed an aviation technical school, where a possible prototype of the main hero taught- Josheph Dominikovich Los', who later became a rocket engine developer. In the 30's the nearby house became the residence of the Group for the Study of Relative Motion.
