Geocache Description:

Fergzters 17th Cache and First in the Be Prepared Series.

The "Be Prepared" Series of caches are dedicated to the members of the Worldwide Scouting and Guiding Movements. Since this is the first one I thought it would be nice to start at a place well known to many Victorian Scouters.

The beginning coordinates are bogus, the actual cache is a small drive or walk away. The cache is located up a bit of a rough track that most vehicles with reasonable ground clearance should be able to negotiate. However of your car suffers from ducks disease you continue as close as you can and once the track starts to get rough get out and walk the last 100 or so meters.

To find the final coordinates for this cache you will need to do some research about the scouting movement. For scouts and guides these should be pretty easy to answer. However if you are not a scout or guide you should still be able to find the answers online with a bit of reading.

South Coordinate String – History of Scouting

S37 AB.CDE

AB = How many boys went on the first experimental scout camp help by Robert Baden-Powell in 1907? Add 14 to our answer.
C = Robert Baden-Powell died on what day in January 1941?
D= What is the last number in the year that Robert Baden-Powell was born?
E = How many girls went of the first BOY scout camp held on Brownsea Island?

East Coordinate String – Scouting Knowledge

E143 FG.HIJ

FG = The last two numbers in the year that the Australian Scout Jamboree was held in Ballarat minus 39.
H = Finish the name of this knot: Figure of _____ Knot. Take away 1 from your answer.
I = Finish the name of this knot: Round Turn and ___ Half Hitches. A Take away 1 from your answer.
J = About a decade ago Ballaarat District Scouts celebrated its 100th anniversary. A book was written by Phil Roberts called the Golden Century of Scouting: Ballarat and District 190? to 200?. What is the number at the end of the years in the title (only use one). A google search may help here. (https://trove.nla.gov.au/work/27992393?q&versionId=45469255)

Once you have figured out this little puzzle, please proceed to the final coordinates that you have calculated.

There are a few scout and guide badges in the cache to swap.

Please be careful on the approach to the GZ. There are mines in the area, however your calculations are wrong if you end up right on top of one.

You can check your answers for this puzzle on GeoChecker.com.
