Geocache Description:

A cache for history buffs like me. Did you know there used to be an AIRFIELD here? Ever wonder why the road behind FOOD-MAXX is called "Airport Road?" Read on...

Cotati Naval Outer Landing Field, Cotati, CA NAAS OLF Cotati became operational in 1943. Cotati was primarily used for touch & go exercises for aircraft from Alameda & Santa Rosa Naval Air Stations. Runway 25 Ran pretty much East to West, starting about where Redwood Drive and the creek meet. This cache represents the approach to the old runway. I imagine that in the 1940's, someone driving along 101 in their Buick would have seen a few war birds crossing low as they did touch 'n go's. After deactivation, the runways became part of a regional hot rod racing circuit. Click on the "Related Web Page" link to learn morn about the airfield.
