Geocache Description:

Many copper alloys were originally developed for their resistance to oxygen corrosion in seawater, but copper and common copper-nickel alloys are also usefully resistant to bio-fouling i.e. coverage by macroscopic marine growth. This led to experiments with copper sheathing of ships hulls to prevent marine growth and improve speed, notably pioneered by the British Navy in the 18th Century (including a few misadventures with galvanic corrosion).

The log-book is not cached at the posted co-ordinates, but you will need to visit the posted co-ordinates to be able to log this cache. This is a ‘one-step’ multi-cache with only one step between the start and end points.

These co-ordinates are most accessible at low tide, and would be dangerous to access at high tide or during heavy surf. Be cautious, use your common sense. Plan to go around low tide.

Refer to the NZ Met service for Port Taranaki tide charts, which should be available here <http://www.metservice.com/marine-surf/tides/port-taranaki>
