Small Klip-lock cache at the top of a circular woodland walk.
NOTE (August 2013): There have been reports of a large wasp nest near the entrance to the woods. It is just along the left hand trail so please be aware of this and take the necessary precautions.
A fairly straight forward cache at a viewpoint erected in memory of Nancy Kirk.
We spent time with Nancy Kirk whilst we were in the geology department at Aberystwyth University and she was certainly a character!
You can read her full obituary here: http://www.abergeologists.net/nancykirk.html
Born in 1916 she was an expert in her field studying graptolites although she had to fight for her status in the early part of her career when being a female geologist was out of the norm.
The cache itself can be found at the viewpoint installed in her memory which provides a lovely walk through the deciduous Pant Da woodland. The walk to the top is fairly steep but zigzags its way up the hillside passing a few information boards about some of the trees. You can descend along another path which has a few more tree information boards and takes you back to the beginning of the trail where there is a small layby for parking.
The entire walk, including stopping at the top to admire the views and hide the cache took us about 30 minutes with an eight year old in tow.
The cache container is a small klip-lock box whch contains a notebook, pencil and a few little trinkets. Please replace it well.
