Námestie slobody je jedno z najznámejších a najväčších námestí v Bratislave
Neďaleko sa tiež nachádza Úrad vlády. V stredoveku sa tu nachádzali vinice. Pravdepodobný vznik námestia bol v 17. storočí keď tu postavili letný arcibiskupský palác (v súčastnosti Úrad vlády SR)
Priestor námestia bol neskôr upravený ako trávnik predelený stromoradím. Preto sa nazýval Kniežacím stromoradím, Furstenallee, Hercegfasor. výraz Furstenallee sa ľudovo skomolil na používaný Firšnál. Za socializmu sa námestie volalo Gottwaldovo, pretože prvý československý robotnícky prezident mal pomník aj so svojou družinou v jednom rohu námestia. V 40 - 50 rokoch rokoch 20. storočia tu postavili poštový palác a budovy univerzít, čím sa námestie uzavrelo zo všetkých strán. Od roku 1980 je tu umiestnená aj najväčšia bratislavská fontána Družba. V rokoch 1992-94 súdruha Gottwalda & Co. po vyhodení do povetria postupne z námestia odstránili. Toto námestie sa medzi prvými v roku 1989 premenovalo na námestie Slobody.

Námestie Slobody (English: Freedom Square), locally referred to as Gottko, is a major city square in the Old Town of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It is situated in the wider city center, close to Kollárovo square and in front of the Summer Archbishop's Palace.
The location of the current square was covered with vineyards during medieval times. It probably originated in the 17th century, with the Summer Archbishop's Palace which was built there. It currently houses the Slovak government. Later it was rebuilt as a grass area, which was divided by an alley of trees. It was called Kniežacie or Fürstenallee and Hercegfasor. The Slovak expression Firšnál originated from Fürstenallee.
The square was called Gottwaldovo during socialism in honor of the first Czechoslovak communist president Klement Gottwald, whose statue was included. The Post Office palace (the biggest post office in the world) and buildings of Slovak Technical University were built there during the 1940s and 1950s, closing the square in from all sides. The biggest fountain in Bratislava stands there, which was built in 1980. It was one of the first squares in Bratislava that was renamed after the Velvet Revolution in 1989.
Sám som na tomto námestí strávil viac než pár letných dní s kamarátmi a občas aj nejakým tekutým svetrom :) Budem rád aj za vaše spomienky na toto miesto.
Obtiažnosť je zvolená kvôli občas dosť vysokému výskytu muglov ale kto si počká, ten sa dočká :)
