Geocache Description:

Located in the heart of Lake City, this building served as the largest auction bean market in the world. Built in 1936 by the Public Works Administration (PWA) as part of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s “New Deal,” the Bean Market provided a central location for farmers from across the south to bring their crops to market. Traders shipped the produce north via rail.

The building serves as a community gathering site which offers frequent programs in arts, history, and agriculture. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
