April 20, 2013 is one of the world-wide CITO days for Groundspeak. There are events across the globe, and one right here on the Westbank in New Orleans, Louisiana. We sure hope you can attend!!
Come out and enjoy some great caching fun, opportunities to get some FTF on brand new caches that will be created specifically for this event and activated that morning (maybe we can even get the reviewer to delay the posting until after the event starts).
This event is being co-hosted by JennWade & BoltmanGang. We're going to provide fresh Vietnamese-bakery bread for ham & cheese poboys. We planned to do BBQ burgers/dogs, but ran into a rather uncooperative park staff that insisted we pay $200 to bring in a grill, along with some ridiculous requirement that we rent a $175 shelter. So...we're just going to do a picnic and commandeer some tables with some shade. We'd love to have you join us and bring along a great picnic-style dish with you.
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CHAIR(S) AND BEVERAGE OF CHOICE!!
We plan to gather at 10:00 a.m., to highlight the activities, turn everyone loose on the caches in the park (there are currently 12-14 caches in the park, but 8-10 won't be activated until CITO-day.) We'll have a Closest to GZ competition, and a few small prizes for winners. I think BoltmanGang is going to create a Poker Run-style cache series, too. After an hour or two of caching, we'll gather for lunch and enjoy some great story-telling, camaraderie, trading and discovering trackables, etc., etc. All the good things of past events will be had here.
There's a CITO component that we can't ignore. Trash bags will be provided and distributed, but I'm going to tell you now that this park is immaculate...normally. The city does a bang-up job of keeping it a diamond in the rough. Still, we'll ask everyone to pick up whatever they can that just doesn't belong out and about the park. BoltmanGang (Cort) has identified one area needing some TLC, and he'll point that area out when we meet.
There's a modest entry fee for the park ($2 per vehicle from outside New Orleans, but only $1 if you have a New Orleans brake tag on the window).
The park is GREAT for all junior cachers, so bring the kids and grandkids. Respond ASAP, and give us a head count, so we can plan for the vittles.
