It must have been a heart breaking business leaving a daughter behind in such isolated country. The Tumbarumba Historical Society were responsible for the erection of the plaque.
Quartzville was once a gold mining town, the gold was first found in about 1875. Storey's reef and Hulsten's reef were definiftely located at Quartville but of the several other reefs supposedly mined at Quartzville the location is unknown. For all that there is little to see of what was once Quartzville it was once quite a community, probably a makeshift community. There are still members of the little girls family living in the area. An interesting headstone but one with an error - see if you can spot the error. There are the remains of a small battery on which work commenced in 1889. This is a lovely area to visit and platypus are reputed to be residents of the nearby Paddy's River Dam. Much mining was done along Paddy's River - it might be worthwhile bring along a gold panning dish. You are looking for an eclipse tin cache.
