Questa semplice cache cittadina si trova in via Sant’Elia, a Messina
Nei dintorni di questa cache si può ammirare:
- la chiesa di Santa Maria Alemanna [wiki], che rappresenta la più alta espressione dell’arte gotica nell’area del Mediterraneo. Venne realizzata, insieme ad un ospedale contiguo, nel 1220 da maestranze tedesche per volere di Federico II di Svevia, che la volle per assicurare ai Cavalieri Teutonici, impegnati nelle crociate, un luogo di sosta e di rifornimento (furono proprio i Cavalieri Teutonici a intitolarla a S. Maria Alemanna). Alla fine del XIV secolo venne abbandonata dai Cavalieri Teutonici e passò sotto la cura della Confraternita dei Rossi (una delle più antiche Confraternite esistenti, nata a Messina e riconosciuta dal papato) che ne gestì l'ospedale, nel quale nel 1571, dopo la battaglia di Lepanto, vi trovò ricovero un personaggio degno di nota, lo scrittore spagnolo Miguel de Cervantes autore qualche anno dopo della famosa opera Don Chisciotte della Mancia.

- the church of Santa Maria Alemanna [wiki ITA], the highest expression of Gothic art in the Mediterranean. It was built, along with an adjacent hospital, in 1220 by German workers according to Frederick II’s wish, who wanted it to ensure the Teutonic Knights, engaged in the Crusades, a place of rest and supply (it was indeed the Teutonic Knights to entitle to St. Mary Alemanna). At the end of the fourteenth century, it was abandoned by the Teutonic Knights and came under the care of the Confraternita dei Rossi, one of the oldest existing confraternities, born in Messina and recognized by the papacy, which ran the hospital, where in 1571, after the battle of Lepanto, a character worthy of note, the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes, author of the famous work Don Quixote, found shelter.[Scroll down for English]
