Geocache Description:

This traditional cache is hidden near an unfinished and abandoned holiday complex in Pembroke by a Finnish geocacher.

This cache takes you to a village of abandoned houses. Be aware that there is quite a lot of broken glass lying around and the houses have dangerous drops inside. Not recommended for small children.

Stealth is required during weekends and public holidays, as locals are using the site as an picnic and camping area. The cache has been muggled couple of times, so please don't leave any trackables to the cache.

The place was built by the British in the 1950s and 1960s and used as accommodation for military. Following the departure of British military from Malta in 1979, the area was transformed into a holiday complex (White Rocks Holiday Complex) and included a hotel... which still can be seen. The area is planned to be transformed into a Sports Complex; see http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20101027/local/white-rocks-negotiations-should-be-completed-within-weeks-pm for details.

The cache is named after a Finnish novel called "Hylätyt talot, autiot pihat" ("Abandoned houses, empty yards") by Laila Hietamies (Hirvisaari). The novel is part of her Karelian Isthmus based series written in early 1980s. A movie has been filmed based on the novel with the name "Abandoned Houses, Empty Homes" (2000).
