The natural surroundings in Álafoss are beautiful, you can sit on the grassy hill that was a former theatre arena, and look over the pond. You can walk down by the river, all the way to Leiruvogur, where birdwatchers go regularly, and the local horsestables are. Or take a hike up the land and into a small wood and all the way to Reykir, the first geothermal heated greenhouse was built in the 1920's.
The geocache is near the waterfall. You can either walk up the road from the parking lot, or turn left by the Álafoss factory outlet and do a hike up by the buildings.
The point where to start searching is to put your back against the big watertank on top of the hill, above the waterfall. Stand so you face the mount Esja.
Take 13 steps towards the ruins. The cache is hidden below you feet.
