Today, you can visit the peaceful cemetery and see a carved section of a trunk from one of the original burial trees, along with the original sandstone headstone donated by Mitchell, as well as a marble headstone that was later installed in 1900.
Yuranigh, a member of the Wiraduri tribe, guide to explorer and surveyor, Major Thomas Mitchell. Mitchell wrote about Yuranigh on his 4th and last trip:
“He has been my guide and companion counsellor and friend, on the most eventful occasions during this last journey of discovery. His intelligence and his judgement rendered him so necessary to me, that he was ever at my elbow, whether on foot or horseback. Confidence in him was never misplaced. He well knew the character of all the white men of the party. Nothing escaped his penetrating eye and quick ear.”
