Geocache Description:

Man, I'm getting old! This little park like avenue used to be a road that was part of my bus route. Of course at that time you could drive clear around the Auditorium. Times have changed and this area has changed drastically with them. Hoagie Carmichael has always been a Bloomington icon. The old Gables ice cream shop (now a sandwich and wings place) over on Indiana avenue is somewhat famous for being where Hoagie sat and wrote his classic "Stardust".  But yeah, at the time I was told the Hoagie story but I'd never heard of the guy. What a great tribute to a great composer and entertainer this statue is! Sort of like the Herman Wells statue at the other end of campus, this one provides room beside the subject to sit and get your picture taken. I would note that the entire statue is non-ferrous metal, and you're looking for a micro that's attached by a magnet. So (hint hint) lay off knocking around the statue! Just have a seat and take a load off. You can almost hear him composing. Of course, he's been gone quite a while, so I guess now he does more de-composing. (Sorry, couldn't resist...)  Good Luck! And thanks for looking.

Double oh yeah! Here's a couple links to some old Hoagie clips.
