Eleventh in a series of Tom.dog Tribute caches to recognize certain cachers who I believe give back to the game in a very noticeable way and who are just plain out, all-around good guys.
My thanks to hiking_fool for his diversity of creative hides and the cool locations that they take you. My personal favorites so far have been the LSA series and the "surveyor" caches. This cache was inspired by "Surveyor's Lament" (GC28YQR).
At the listed coordinates, you can find a U.S. Department of the Interior cadastral survey mark. It is a metal pipe cap secured to the top of a pipe, driven into the ground near the corner of a fence. Use the writing on the mark to answer the questions below and find the final coordinates to the cache. I reccommend that you park at the coordinates I have supplied below and hike to the final from here.
North coordinates:
N 39 04.A
To find A, take the year the mark was established, and subtract 1,254.
West coordinates:
W 104 54.B
To find B, look for one of the sets of words below to be found on the mark. The one that really is stamped into the mark will have the 3-digit number you need for B.
"$250 FINE FOR DISTURBING" B = 666
"BUR. OF LAND MANAGEMENT" B = 777
"PIKE NATIONAL FOREST SURVEY PROJECT" B = 888
"T12S R82W" B = 999
Good luck and have fun!
