A small, red plastic case [UPDATE: THIS HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A DIFFERENT TYPE OF CACHE (NO SPOILERS HERE) - NOW A NANO] placed near the Cardff City Stadium to celebrate the new era of Cardiff City after the recent rebrand from blue to red and new stadium development.
This cache was placed as a tribute to "the new Cardiff City", after recent changes have changed the club drastically, for better or worse.
The cache is a tribute to the new ground, the Cardiff City stadium, which, after the Millenium Stadium, is the second largest stadium in Cardiff and in Wales. The stadium is part of the Leckwith developent, which also includes the Cardiff International Sports Stadium. The stadium was officially opened on 22 July 2009, with Cardiff City playing a friendly against Celtic. The first league game was played on 8 August 2009, a 4–0 win for Cardiff against Scunthorpe United.
The stadium was built on the site of the former Cardiff Athletics Stadium and forms part of a larger development. The 60-acre (240,000 m2) development was estimated to cost £100m and include construction of the following:
- A 27,000 seater stadium
- A new athletics stadium, just across the road from the new one
- 470,000 sq ft (44,000 m2) retail development between 13 major retailers (Capital Retail Park)
- A housing development on the site of the old Cardiff city ground, Ninian Park
- Brand new 70 room hotel with bar & restaurant
- A new road system
This cache has a "brother" the other side of the stadium, GC code: GC48XAF
The cache itself is a micro, containing a log book but no pen/cil (don't forget to bring your own) with no room for TBs / swag. There will be an obvious need for stealth, especially on match days as there are usually cars and shoppers nearby, as well as fans. There was also a TB for the FTF. Congratulations to DiscountForCache on their "reluctant" FTF!
