Geocache Description:

An unconventional geocache in a peaceful location. NB It is not in the actual church grounds but you will have to walk through some of the graveyard to reach the Abbey. PLEASE RESPECT THIS AREA, THANK YOU. :) Bring a pen.

These ruins are known as Halsall Abbey and are thought to be the remains of a 14th century priest's house. They were rediscovered in 1964 when the area was being cleared for public access. We thought it would make a lovely secluded spot for a geocache. Access is through the church yard - either through the lych gate on Summerwood Lane or via the small gate on Halsall Road. You will need to cross one of the bridges and bear left. The present St. Cuthbert's Church dates back to the early 1300s, however, there has been a religious centre here (according to the Rector's records) since 1190. This cache originally contains five Travel Bugs. Also enclosed is Path Tag 'Hookline' which may be kept by whoever finds it or moved on (it is not a trackable, but you can find out where it originated and who designed it by using the information on the Path Tag) (PATHTAGS.COM). This was the first Path Tag we found - it's quite interesting to discover who set it free.

Also inside are a few swaps - please leave/swap items of equal value - just to be fair to all!!  Thank you so much

What with the Travel Bugs and swaps, this is a good cache for children especially but the history and location should appeal to all! Have fun, enjoy and most of all Happy Caching! Please replace as found & cover with sticks/leaves etc. Co-ordinates are best fit - tree coverage may have hindered a perfect reading I think.
