The Cotton Belt Trail opened in March 2013 with an official ribbon cutting on April 2, 2013 after a long construction process that began in 2009. The trail was funded through the 2007 bond election, city funds, and federal funding. Originally part of an abandoned railroad line, the State of Texas and the City of Waco built this 2.5 mile long paved trail complete with covered rest areas at the trail heads and a wide concrete trail that is perfect for jogging, strolling or bicycling. One of the highlights of the trail is a bridge that stretches across the South Bosque River and snakes around beneath Old Lorena Road.
To find this cache, please park at one of the designated trail heads listed below or the listed "unofficial" parking area if you prefer a shorter walk. There is no need to bushwhack or go too far off-road to find this cache since the cache is located just a few yards off the paved trail. The cache is easily accessible for most people, but please watch your step as you exit the trail and approach the final location. There is room for small trackables, coins, pathtags, or other small trade items. The initial contents include a 2005 TXGA geocoin, smashed coin from the "Necropolis of Britannia Manor III" in Austin, and a few other trinkets. Bring your own pen.
NOTE: If you are not familiar with decon containers, they are incredibly water-proof when sealed properly. However, getting a good seal is sometimes difficult. Even though I always use waterproof paper for my logs, please help this cache stay dry by making sure all four corners snap into place and that the cloth strap is not accidently caught in the seal after you find the cache. For best results, please do not attempt to remove the cache from the hiding spot—simply open and close it in place.
