Geocache Description:

公開座標は木曽川の河畔です。そこには岩の露出している場所があります。

木曽川の南岸、犬山城から桃太郎神社にかけて三畳紀からジュラ紀にかけて堆積したチャートを観察することができます。

チャートとは堆積岩の一種で主成分は二酸化ケイ素（SiO2）で細粒・緻密な硬い岩石です。この成分を持つ放散虫・海綿動物などの動物の殻や骨片（微化石）が海底に堆積してできた岩石です。普通は乳白色で、含まれる不純物により、灰、黒、青、緑、茶、赤などいろいろな色調のものがあります。
チャートは産状から層状チャートと団塊状チャートに分けられます。層状チャートは大規模な地層として広く分布するのに対し、団塊状チャートは石灰岩などの中に小塊として産出するのみで地質学的には層状チャートが重要とされます。 層状チャートは露頭では縞状の構造を呈します。

犬山では、三畳紀からジュラ紀にかけて作られた層状チャートが連続して存在しています。その中に存在する放散虫の種類により作られた年代がわかるようになり、プレートテクニクスによる日本列島の形成過程を研究する上で世界的に価値があります。
チャートの厚さは100mぐらいになります。それはおよそ6000万年かけて堆積したものです

犬山の観光（ジオキャッシング？）のついでにこのチャートの露頭を観察して、長い時の流れを感じてみて下さい。

When you arrive at the posted coordinates, you can observe the exposure of the rock. It is between Momotaro Shrine from Inuyama Castle of Kiso River.

There is a part that looks to the striped pattern When you observed. This is the stratum of the chert.
Chert is a fine-grained silica-rich microcrystalline, cryptocrystalline or microfibrous sedimentary rock that may contain small fossils. It varies greatly in color (from white to black), but most often manifests as gray, brown, grayish brown and light green to rusty red; its color is an expression of trace elements present in the rock.
A chart is classified into bedded chert and a clod-like chart from the structure. Bedded chert is widely distributed as a large-scale stratum. A clod-like chart is produced as a pellet in a limestone etc.

In Inuyama, Bedded chert is observable. The chert made from the Triassic period to the Jurassic period exists continuously. The age made by the kind of radiolarian which exists in it comes to be known, and it is globally worthy when studying the morphosis of the Japanese Islands by plate technics.
The thickness of the chert will be about 100 m. It is deposited over about 60 million years. Moreover, it becomes a layer of a mudstone and sandstone.

You please observe the outcrop of　the chert　and tourist district of the Inuyama area. And try to feel the flow of time.
