Ngarrindjeri Country
One of the most important wetlands in Australia and internationally known for native and migratory birdlife, The Coorong is a place of spectacular white sand dunes, wildlife, unique flora, and aboriginal history. A place of untouched wilderness, peace and tranquillity.
A 100 kilometre chain of salt water less than three kilometres wide, The Coorong is home to some 230 species of waterbird and shorebird - including 14 protected species and 21 species of seabird.
To Aboriginal Australians the land is not just the soil or rock or minerals, but the whole environment: the land, the water, the air, and all the life they support. Woman and man, all the elements, the sun, the moon, the earth and skies: all are related and are linked by spirituality, culture and country. This is known as the Dreaming.
