Geocache Description:

Cache is half-way up a steep mountainside on a developed trail. There are THREE options in finding this cache. It is up to you whether you want to walk down to the cache and then back up, walk up to the cache and then back down or walk completely in one direction (up or down- will require placement of vehicle at each terminus).

Option 1-- Start at the top: Flag Rock Park gates are kept closed until the end of May, but you can park at the gates and walk in. Park at N 36.54.730 W 082.37.979. Walk down the road through the picnic area to the beginning of the Flag Rock Trail. The trailhead is located behind the bathrooms on the left on the way into the park. Walk down the trail (about .25 miles as the crow flies/longer in walking travel due to curves in the trail) to find the cache. You can continue down the trail to the Legion Park at the foot of the mountain OR hike back up to the gate.

Option 2-- Start at the top (after the end of May when the gates are open): Park at the trailhead by the bathrooms on the left on the way in as mentioned Option 1. Coordinates for parking: N 36.55.063 W 082.37.721. Walk down the trail (about .25 miles as the crow flies/longer in walking travel due to curves in the trail) to find the cache. You can continue down the trail to the Legion Park at the foot of the mountain OR hike back up to the bathrooms.

Option 3-- Start at the bottom. Park at the Legion Park. Coordinates for parking N36.55.369 W 082.38.179. Hike through the picnic area at the back of the park and hike up to the cache (about .26 miles as the crow flies/longer in walking travel due to curves in the trail) to find the cache. You can continue on up the mountain trail to the Flag Rock Park OR you can walk on back down the mountain to the Legion Park. This one is probably the best option because you will be walking UP the hill while fresh and walking DOWN the hill when spent.

The cache is set about half way up OR half way DOWN the trail, so none of the above options has the distance advantage over the other one. The trail is very steep in places and you should pace yourself. Bring plenty of water! Original Contents:
