Geocache Description:

Until the road construction is finished, this cache will only be accessible by travelers going Westbound. There is a parking area before you get to the cache. Be careful!
Nano container. Need own writing stick, and an extraction tool would be helpful. Nice piece of history here. This is not a magnetic! Please rehide carefully as this is a replacement for a cache that was muggled multiple times.

FTF honors go to VanDavey! Very well earned after putting in so much effort to find it. Since this is a replacement cache, we still want to honor ALLWINDY on the FTF for the original Carlin Canyon Curiosity (GC2M8M0).

Park your vehicle near the informational kiosk and take time to read about the history of the area before walking across to GZ. (not at present time because of construction)

California Trail - Carlin Canyon
"We have to cross the river four times...on each side of you there is a perpendicular wall of vast rock...overhanging the road so one has a feeling very near bordering onto fear as he passes under those precipices." Lewis Beers, Aug. 3, 1852.

There's actually much more history than that here...about 300 million years of history in fact! The rock formations are remnants from the Paleozoic Era. Take time to look for some fossils in the nearby rocks. They shouldn't take long to find. There seems to be a never-ending supply of them at this site. In fact, you can probably find fossils quicker than the cache!
