Geocache Description:

This cache will bring you to the Abbey Church of St Mary and St Helena in Elstow. The cache is a 35mm canister, so bring your own pen! The final cache is NOT placed within the churchyard.

Elstow Abbey was founded by Countess Judith, niece of William the Conqueror in 1078.  The Abbey was dissolved in 1539 and was reduced to its current size by the time Elizabeth I came to the throne.  The bell tower is one of only a few free standing bell towers in the country.  The church has two stained glass windows connected with John Bunyan and it contains the communion table used when Bunyan attended the church and the font where he was christened in 1628.  John Bunyan's mother, father and sister are buried in the graveyard.
To get the coordinates for the cache, you must first find the plaque on the gates.  Norman Thompson lived from xxxx-yyyy.  Add together the x digits =A and add together the y digits =B.  The gates themselves have 4 hinges.  Count the total number of big (square) screws holding them (including those in the posts) =C.
Now go to the North door at N52 06.900 W000 28.164.  Above the door there is a frieze.  How many people are depicted?  Answer =F.  Nearby are several downpipes featuring the date D88E.

The final coordinates are: N52 06.(A+8-B)DE W000 C.04(F*2).
Congratulations Pumpkin 67-FTF
