Wolseley Wander is a short series of two caches around the Wolseley Centre Nature Reserve. Although child friendly please be careful with geokids as some of the caches are very close to water.
Kingfisher cache is a camouflaged box, originally containing a logbook, pencil, a few swaps and a TB. Kingfishers can be seen flying along the river and streams here and nesting in the river bank opposite.
The Wolseley Centre is the headquarters of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. It is surrounded by 26 acres of former landscape gardens and was once the ancestral home of the Wolseley family. Now managed as a nature reserve, it boasts a range of habitats and wildlife trails. Parking is available next to the Centre until the gates are locked at 5.15pm. The pedestrian gate is open at all times.
Kingfishers have destinctive bright blue and orange plumage. They fly rapidly over the water, nest in riverbank burrows, and hunt fish from riverside perches. They live in the UK all the year round.
I would like to thank Alison Rhodes and everyone at Staffordshire Wildlife Trust for their permission to place this cache.
