Released in 1940 starring Errol Flynn, Olivia deHavilland, Raymond Massey, Ronald Reagan, and Alan Hale. Bloody battles for control of Kansas before the Civil War. Portrays the beginnings of Jeb Stewart's and George Custer's military careers.
This is a simplistic retelling of the John Brown legend. The events leading up to the bloody confrontation between Brown abd the US Army at Harper's Ferry, Virginia, are treated in a painstakenly even-handed fashion: Brown's desire to free the slaves is "right" but his methods are "wrong."
