We hope this sad tale will stir you to action to find a secret hidden treasure and help the spirits of two young lovers reunite. Of course it is a scary tale and we take no responsibility if you are captured by the skeleton crew to never be heard from again. We also hope if you do find the treasure, that this hunt will be one of your most memorable. Now let the tale begin......
Years before the rich started to inhabit Jekyll Island, pirates used to frequent here. Of course our local pirates were not as well known as Captain BlackBeard, Captain Jean Lafitte or Captain Jack Sparrow.
One of the locals was Captain Blue Eyes, a handsome and dashing young man. In his trusty ship known as "Big Red", he would raid towns up and down the coastline from the southern tip of Florida all the way up to the Virginia shoreline. Captain Blue Eyes had made Jekyll Island his home base of operations and had amassed a vast fortune.
Now there was a beautiful young woman on Jekyll Island, who was the daughter of a rich shipping magnate. Being a small island, it was only natural that Captain Blue Eyes saw this beautiful woman after returning from a raid up North. He was so smitten and madly in love with the beautiful Laura that he promised her his vast fortune as a wedding gift if she would marry him. The beautiful Miss Laura was love-struck with the handsome pirate too and would sneak away to meet him whenever he was on the island.
However as these things go, her father soon discovered they were secretly meeting. He forbade his daughter from seeing Captain Blue Eyes. Upon hearing this, the dashing pirate made an ill-fated choice and kidnapped her. Her angry father soon discovered his daughter was missing, knew what had happened and immediately rounded up a crew to rescue his beautiful daughter. This rescue was successful, but in the battle Captain Blue Eyes managed to get away. Laura's father returned her home and he vowed to hunt down Captain Blue Eyes to avenge this act.
During all of this activity a massive storm had been brewing in the Atlantic. It was nasty and threatened the island. Even with the imminent threat of the storm, Laura's father started after Captain Blue Eyes who had already set to sea in an effort to outrun the father and the storm. But, the horrendous storm hit sooner than they both thought and Laura’s father was forced to turn back. Captain Blue Eyes was not so lucky and his ship was caught in the storm.
This horrific storm hit with a frenzy and Captain Blue Eyes along with his crew ended up lost at sea. In the meantime, the beautiful Laura had run away when her father had started after the Captain. She was trying to join her handsome beau and meant to catch up with him using her father’s schooner. Sadly, all of them were never heard from again.
The caveat to this whole sad affair is the vast fortune of treasure was never found. The legend is the treasure was hidden away on Jekyll Island prior to the Captain setting to sea. The rumors abound though that it is protected by the pirate crew and also by the Captain himself. It is said part of him is hovering above the treasure chest ready to keep it hidden forever.
If you dare to attempt to find this treasure, be warned that many have tried to find this treasure only to meet with disaster. The stories abound of treasure seekers who are never heard from again. It is possible their remains are there to guide the way. The story goes that the two lovers roam the island trying to find each other to reunite their love. If the weather is stormy, you can hear them calling out to each other.
