Geocache Description:

St. Mary's Church is in the heart of Sherwood Forest and according to legend, Robin Hood and Maid Marion were married here.

St Mary's Church is a beautiful and ancient place of worship in the heart of Sherwood Forest. It is visited by hundreds of tourists annually, who come to see the church where, according to legend, Robin Hood and Maid Marian were married! The building dates from around 1175, and is still used daily as a place of prayer and worship. Edwinstowe is a busy village of around 5000 people, with many community organisations and village events. It has a strong mining history, with Thoresby Colliery still in operation on the outskirts of the village.
