Geocache Description:


Welcome to Historic (1724) Ashley Falls. Ashley Falls (a village of Sheffield, MA) was named for Colonel John Ashley and the nearby falls. Colonel Ashley was instumental in the creation of the Sheffield Declaration. Elizabeth Freeman known as Mum Bett was a slave owned by Colonel Ashley.  Mum Bett helped to end slavery in Massachusetts. In 1781, Mum Bett sued Colonel Ashley for her freedom and won. Bartholomew's Cobble is located on land owned by Colonel Ashley. Stone from the Ashley falls quarry can be found in the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. BYOP
