Geocache Description:

Hat Rock State Park is one of my favorite local spots to picnic, fish, hike and photograph. This cache, one of several in the same area, is at the very beginning of the Lewis and Clark Commemorative Trail.

Found this location at the end of a pleasant afternoon spent finding a couple of caches, a picnic lunch and relaxing in the park. We set out for a short walk to round the adventure off, found this location at the very beginning of the foot path leading to the Lewis and Clark Commemorative Trail. Wonderful view of the Columbia River, watched a barge making its way down river.

The cache is not truly in a cairn, but I like the sound of the word! It's more of an outcropping of rough, volcanic rock, but it looks like a cairn (if you squint your eyes!). Properly speaking, a cairn is manmade, a heap of stones raised for a memorial or landmark. This small rock formation is not manmade. In placing the cache we disturbed a small nest of ants tending their eggs. It seemed appropriate to name the cache after them.
