Geocache Description:

17/08/2018 Update: The period table series will now be maintained by a series of cachers. Lachlan1.77 will take over maintenance for PT12 to PT19. Thanks to BlaKids for their work in maintaining the series.

This is the second incarnation of the Aluminium cache. The first was destroyed in reconstruction 150m to the south. There are 114 caches to each represent each element on the periodic table (until new elements are added). For simplicity sake only elements approved by the “International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry” will be included in this series.

The cache containers are small tubes as shown in the picture below

These containers have only a logbook inside them and no pen/pencil. Please make sure to bring a pen.

Pure aluminium is a silvery-white metal with many desirable characteristics. It is light, nontoxic (as the metal), nonmagnetic and nonsparking. It is somewhat decorative. It is easily formed, machined, and cast. Pure aluminium is soft and lacks strength, but alloys with small amounts of copper, magnesium, silicon, manganese, and other elements have very useful properties. Aluminium is an abundant element in the earth's crust, but it is not found free in nature. The Bayer process is used to refine aluminium from bauxite, an aluminium ore. Source: Webelements.

This power trail starts at Mount Henry Bridge and continues south down the freeway cyclepath. This power trail is designed for bicycles or walkers and will be extremely hard, if not impossible for drivers. There is however a car park and a playground near the start.

Please stay safe and enjoy the power trail.
