Geocache Description:

Once considered the same species as the Southern Caracara (Caracara plancus) and Guadalupe Caracara (Caracara lutosa), the Northern or Crested Caracara (Caracara cheriway) is now recognized as a distinct species.

Established in 2012 by Conservation Collier, the Caracara Prairie Preserve is 367.7 acres of prairie/pasture, digressional marshes and pine flatwoods. The red trail (MAP) will take you throughout each where you will have the opportunity to find 11 physical caches. During your exploration you may come across cattle in the preserve as well as a variety of wildlife including Sandhill Cranes and Crested Caracaras (AKA Mexican Eagles). The preserve is open to hunting several times a year. Please check Conservation Collier's website for more INFO.
