2 stage multi cache where you will have to find information from a marker at Stage 1 and then do some calculations to get to the final.
You will need to visit Stage 1 at the posted coordinates where you will find a very interesting stone marker. I have driven past here many times and finally stopped and checked it out. Definitely a cool little piece of history.
IMPORTANT: Do not pull into the driveway of the establishment as it is private property and posted signs are all over. There is a small pull off from the highway big enough for 1-2 cars in front of the marker. Please be careful as traffic is very heavy and fast along this stretch of highway. I would not recommend stopping here at night.
Now that you are at the marker you will need to find some information and do some math to be able to solve for the final coordinates:
A= He came to or near the mouth how many miles south of this marker? Take that number and multiply it by 4 to get A.
BC= How many miles up from the falls? Take that number and add it to 45 to get BC.
DEF= Look at the two years listed for his first visit to America. Now add those two numbers together. Call that number X. Then take the year of relocation of the marker and add 823 to it. Call that number Y. Subtract Y from X to get DEF.
Final cache is located at:
N 40 16.ABC
W 75 45.DEF
Checksum for the digits: A+B+C+D+E+F=39.
I called this cache Society of Friends for two reasons. The first reason is a nod to the man on the marker. The second reason is that I have made so many new friends because of geocaching and the whole geocaching community is like one big Society of Friends. In fact when I went to place the cache I did not have a sufficient log with me and I just happened to run into geojo1 and kathleenjo who supplied with a proper log. Thanks ladies and it was nice to see you again!
Parking for the final will be listed as a waypoint. You can follow the trails the entire time to get to the cache. Please do not attempt the final at night as the park is closed. Good luck and have fun!
