a small cache along a hiking trail at Serpent Mound
Serpent Mound is the world's largest surviving example of an ancient animal effigy mound. It stretches 1,348 feet over the ground and depicts the form of a serpent with an oval shape at the head. Many native cultures called America's eastern woodlands home for thousands of years prior to European contact, producing sophisticated art and large-scale earthworks. Most of these have been lost. We are fortunate to have this one!
From the parking lot go behind the small mound to the blue trail (Buckeye Trail). Stay on the trail til you are very close to the cache. It is about .15 miles.
There is a $7 car fee to enter Serpent Mound.
The park is open dawn to dusk throughout the year except when snow and ice create unsafe conditions. The museum is open daily during the summer and on weekends spring and fall. For more details you can visit the website: serpentmound@arcofappalachia.org.
We have permission for this hide from Megan McCane.
