Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the eastern hills surrounding Kyoto

Hidden in a forested area surrounded by shrines and temples, this cache offers visitors to the area a little bit of exploration off the tourist routes. This is a very old cache and the oldest geocache hidden in Kyoto.

The cache is hidden in a 900 mL waterproof Nalgene container.

Please be careful when seeking the cache as the terrian leading up (or down) to the cache will be challenging. You will experience signal problems near the cache site so expect at best ~8m, so if you find you are having problems, head to the trail where you entered or to the small hill to the west to get a better position fix.

Partial spoiler: This particular geocache uses my original standard international cache container. You can learn more about these containers here. One of the cache hunters decided to hunt for this cache without a GPS, taking a good portion of a day. The cache find page is in Japanese, but you can use a translation service such as Google translate to convert Japanese > English. It's actually quite funny to read!

Some additional hints for seekers of this cache, seeing the number of no finds: This cache will challenge your GPS since the overhead trees degrade the signal and there are many "forked trees" that the cache could be hidden near. Have a look at the spoiler picture and then start seeking from there. The cache is attached by a wire to a root at the base of a tree in plain sight. The tree fork has a hole in it for water or other materials to collect (but it wasn't big enough to hide the cache).

A movie (spoiler) showing the cache find may be watched here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOsCp8WmZWE

If you decide to approach from the bottom, the obvious spot to cross the creek is at the bridge and there is a gate to keep people out. The gate is NOT locked.
