Geocache Description:

Even though white-tailed deer are a very common resident of this park, there are many other species of deer that are not seen here. This cache is dedicated to one of those species.

Pampas deer live in the grasslands of South America at low elevations. Their habitat includes water and hills, often with winter drought, and grass that is high enough to cover a standing deer. Many of them live on the Pantanal wetlands, where there are ongoing conservation efforts, and other areas of annual flooding cycles. Human activity has changed much of the original landscape. They are known to live up to 12 years in the wild, longer if captive, but are threatened due to over-hunting and habitat loss. Many people are concerned over this loss, because a healthy deer population means a healthy grassland, and a healthy grassland is home to many species, some also threatened. Many North American birds migrate south to these areas, and if the Pampas deer habitat is lost, they are afraid these bird species will also decline. There are approximately 80,000 Pampas deer total, with the majority of them living in Brazil.

Cache is a small sized, clear container hidden in a typical manner. Please use stealth as you may be seen from the trail. Bring your own writing utensil. Hide back as found and properly concealed.

The cache is located not far from the trail so bushwhacking further than that is not necessary and is discouraged to reduce impact on the environment. Please replace as found. You must sign the logbook in order to claim credit for this find.

Please park at the coordinates shown in the Waypoint table and start your walk at the Trail head coordinates. There are other parking areas and trail access points available also.

Enjoy your walk, hike or bike ride along the "Purr Fect" trail. Plenty of nature's wonders to see along the way. We have placed other caches for you to find while you make your way along this trail!
