Geocache Description:

Down stream from the Birchbank pinic area there's a point of land that appears to be a favourite fishing location for some and affords a good view of an eagle nest. It looks like a good nest in a solid tree but there were no eagles to be seen when the cache was placed.

Follow the paved road past the picinic area to the end. You can park at the end of the pavement or at a spot a short ways up the dirt road. The dirt road has some rough spots but it was easy for a small car to reach the suggested parking location of N49 10.461 W117 43.337. Driving further up the road isn't recommended unless it's with a high clearance vehicle and preferably 4 wheel drive. It's also not really necessary.

Take the trail at N49 10.335 W117 43.375 towards the river. At the junction, keep right. You'll come out of the forest at the end of an inlet. Keep the inlet to your right and follow the beach & your GPS to the cache.

This is easy when the water level is low. Tougher when it's high. You probably would have needed a boat (but then it would have been too dangerous) in Spring of 2012 when the water was so high. You can still see the waterline on the young pine trees on your left as you walk along the beach. All the lower branches to the 6-8 foot level are dark because of dead needles, yet branches above this are green and thriving.

The suggested route is to walk all the way out to the point, then walk up the gently sloping grassy bank up onto the high ground.
