Pfeifdom is a fine cacher but he is first and foremost, an avid bicyclist. He enjoys caching the most when he can hit the trail on his bike. When planning a placement for his 1,000 celebratory cache, I had to choose a site along a bike path.
Mayslake Forest Preserve is located along the Oakbrook bike path and is one of the most interesting preserves in the DuPage County area. Take time to wander the grounds and see Peabody's Estate, the chapel and the amphitheatre among the beautiful grounds.
The posted coordinates will take you to the gates of the original Mayslake estate. On the top of each of the pillars at the entrance are some inscriptions. Add the number of letters contained within the first word on the western pillar to the final digit of the North coordinate. The sum will be your final North coordinate
The eastern pillar has a year on it: multiply the digits in the year together one at a time giving you YY. Multiply YY by the number of letters in the SECOND word on the western pillar to give you ZZ. Subtract ZZ from the posted West coordinate to arrive at the final West coordinate.
Stroll on over to do some light bushwhacking and grab the final. To keep the cache Forest Preserve Approved, please be aware of the following: 1. This Geocache is placed on DuPage County Forest Preserve property with permission. 2. Do not place the following items in the Geocache: Food items, inappropriate, offensive, or hazardous materials. 3. DuPage County Forest Preserve hours are 1 hour after sunrise until 1 hour after sunset. Preserve users must not be in the preserves after hours. 4. It is the visitor’s responsibility to be aware of the policies and rules pertaining to this preserve. All Statutes, ordinances, rules and regulations pertaining to the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County are applicable.
