Geocache Description:

ENGLISH The Secret Letter is "G"

This cache was planted for the "Cache In Trash Out" event in Athens the 20th of April 2013.
The area chosen, the "Environmental Awareness Park Antonis Tritsis", is a park that needs "Caches In" and "Trash Out".

Eratosthenes of Cyrene (276 BC– 195 BC) was a Greek mathematician, geographer, poet, astronomer, and music theorist.

He was the first person to use the word "geography" in Greek and he invented the discipline of geography as we understand it. He invented a system of latitude and longitude.
He was the first person to calculate the circumference of the earth by using a measuring system using stades, or the length of stadiums during that time period (with remarkable accuracy). He was the first to calculate the tilt of the Earth's axis (also with remarkable accuracy). He may also have accurately calculated the distance from the earth to the sun and invented the leap day. He also created the first map of the world incorporating parallels and meridians within his cartographic depictions based on the available geographical knowledge of the era.
Eratosthenes also proposed a simple algorithm for finding prime numbers. This algorithm is known in mathematics as the Sieve of Eratosthenes.

The cache
The cache is a small cylindrical plastic container, initially containing a log book, a pencil, a geocaching declaration in Greek and in English and some very small items for exchange.

Please write down the letter that will be found in the logbook and/or the box of the cache.
As soon as you find all the "CITO 2013 - ..." caches and you have written down the letter you will be able to solve the puzzle of the Cito - 2013 bonus cache

Αυτή η κρύπτη δημιουργήθηκε για την "Cache In Trash Out" εκδήλωση στην Αθήνα την 20η Απριλίου 2013.
Ως περιοχή επιλέχθηκε το "Πάρκο Περιβαλλοντικής Ευαισθητοποίησης Αντώνης Τρίτσης" ένα μέρος που χρειάζεται και "Cache In" αλλά και "Trash out"

Ο Ερατοσθένης ο Κυρηναίος (Κυρήνη 276 π.Χ. – Αλεξάνδρεια 194 π.Χ.) ήταν αρχαίος Έλληνας μαθηματικός, γεωγράφος , ποιητής ,αστρονόμος και θεωρητικός μουσικός.

Ήταν ο πρώτος που χρησιμοποίησε την λέξη "Γεωγραφία" στα Ελληνικά και επινόησε ένα σύστημα συντεταγμένων με παράλληλους και μεσημβρινούς.
Θεωρείται ο πρώτος που υπολόγισε την περιφέρεια της Γης μετρώντας την σε στάδια, μία αρκετά ακριβής μέτρηση για τα δεδομένα της εποχής .

Ήταν ο πρώτος που υπολόγισε την κλίση του άξονα της γης και με εξαιρετική ακρίβεια την απόσταση μεταξύ της γης και Ηλίου, όπως και το Δίσεκτο Έτος.
Επίσης, δημιούργησε τον πρώτο χάρτη του κόσμου, με βάση τις διαθέσιμες γεωγραφικές γνώσεις της εποχής, απεικονίζοντας ταυτόχρονα και τους παράλληλους και μεσημβρινούς.

Επίσης εφηύρε έναν απλό αλγόριθμο για τον υπολογισμό των πρώτων αριθμών γνωστό ως "κόσκινο του Ερατοσθένη".

Η κρύπτη είναι ένας μικρός κυλινδρικός σωλήνας που αρχικά περιέχει logbook , geocaching decalration στα ελληνικά και στα Αγγλικά και μερικά πολύ μικρά αντικείμενα για ανταλλαγή.

Παρακαλώ σημειώστε το γράμμα που θα βρείτε στο logbook ή/και στο κουτί της κρύπτης.
Εφόσον βρείτε όλες τις κρύπτες "CITO 2013 - ..." και έχετε σημειώσει τα γράμματα θα μπορείτε να λύσετε το γρίφο της κρύπτης CITO 2013 - Bonus
