“Making a mountain out of a mole hill” is a metaphor for the common behavior of responding disproportionately to something - usually an adverse circumstance. One who "makes a mountain out of a molehill" is said to be greatly exaggerating the severity of the situation. In cognitive psychology, this form of distortion is called magnification. The term is also used to refer to one who has dwelled on a situation that has long passed and is therefore no longer significant.
Well, this structure is probably closer to a molehill or at least a rabid ground hog hill based on the burrows. This place will crush you when you try to get in. The pricker bushes will cut you to shreds. The old silo is likely to fall on you. It is probably a wolf's den and they will devour you. Uh-oh, there I go again making a mountain out of… Oh yeah, you get the picture!
This corner of Auburn Road and Route 87 must have held some agricultural buildings a number of years ago. There is a foundation, what is left of a silo and a whole lot of rubble. I did not grow up in this area, but if I did, I am sure I would have loved playing on this “mountain” of debris.
The cache is NOT anywhere near the silo, I would not advise going near it, it does not look to be the most stable structure. The holes that look like ground hog holes, they likely are ground hog holes and the cache is not in them either. I suggest parking in the pull off of Auburn Rd on the east side of the lot. The easiest way in is from the west side. There is not too much underbrush in the early spring, but I imagine it will be a fairly tough bushwack in the summer. I have no idea if there is poison ivy in the area, but I suspect there will likely be some! Please do not park in the church parking lot or go through their property.
For some this will be a fairly simple find, for others, not so much. Remember, do not make a mountain out of this molehill!
