FBI BAU Supervisory Special Agent Jennifer "JJ" Jareau who, until the sixth season of the show, was the team's liaison with the media and local police. JJ grew up in a small town surrounded by woods. When she was 11, her elder sister committed suicide. She was the captain of the varsity soccer team in high school and went to college on an athletic scholarship. She decided to join the FBI after attending a book reading held by SSA David Rossi (Joe Mantegna). She isn't a profiler and she declines Hotchner's suggestion to "take the classes" to become one. She does state however that some profiling is required for her position, since she plays a major role in choosing the cases the BAU takes.
